St. Vincent de Paul (SVdP) will hold its eighth annual Friends of the Poor Walk on Saturday, October 17, 2015. This annual SVdP fundraiser is unique because it gives SVdP supporters the opportunity to participate in a simultaneous nationwide walk to raise awareness and funding for St. Vincent de Paul and their mission to “help our neighbors in need.”
The Detroit portion of the walk kicks off at 10am at Belle Isle. The approximately 3 mile route takes participants through the beautiful Belle Isle and concludes with lunch provided by Domino’s Pizza, Whole Foods Market and Matchan Nutrition Center. Participants will enjoy a fun event tailored for the entire family.
Walkers are encouraged to collect pledges from supporters as they participate in this wonderful event. All funds raised will remain in the neighborhoods as designated by each walker and their supporters. Various corporations and businesses have donated to this annual fundraising effort including Whole Foods, who have donated snacks and goodies for all of the participants, Absopure Water Company, who have donated bottled water and LaGrasso Bros. Produce, who have donated fresh bananas.
Funds raised from the Friends of the Poor Walk help St. Vincent de Paul provide food, shelter, dental care, utility assistance, youth programs and other vital social services to those in need throughout Metro Detroit. SVdP assists more than 300,000 households annually.
