St. Vincent de Paul (SVdP) will hold its seventh annual Friends of the Poor Walk on Saturday, September 13, 2014. This annual SVdP fundraiser is unique because it gives SVdP supporters the opportunity to participate in a simultaneous nationwide walk to raise awareness and funding for St. Vincent de Paul and their mission to “help our neighbors in need.”
The Detroit portion of the walk kicks off at 10am at Milliken State Park with reporter Nima Shaffé from WXYZ-TV as the event emcee. The approximately 3.5 mile route takes participants through the beautiful Dequindre Cut Greenway and concludes with lunch provided by Domino’s Pizza, Whole Foods Market and Matchan Nutrition Center. Participants will enjoy a fun event tailored for the entire family.
Walkers are encouraged to collect pledges from supporters as they participate in this wonderful event. All funds raised will remain in the neighborhoods are designated by each walker and their supporters. Various corporations and businesses have donated to this annual fundraising effort including Whole Foods, who have donated snacks and goodies for all of the participants.
Funds raised from the Friends of the Poor Walk help St. Vincent de Paul provide food, shelter, dental care, utility assistance, youth programs and other vital social services to those in need throughout Metro Detroit. SVdP assists more than 300,000 households annually.
Registration for the walk begins at 9am at Milliken State Park. For more information call Michael Renaver at 313-393-3014 or register online at www.svdpusa.net/walk/905.
