Van Elslander Family Center
The Society of St. Vincent de Paul Van Elslander Family Center is a multi-service center designed to provide services for the residents in the east side community where it is located. From child care to health care, from educational and job training programs to emergency services, the Van Elslander Family Center is a community partnership that is increasing access to basic community services.
Services at the Van Elslander Family Center:
Children and Youth
- SE Children and Family Development Head Start operates a program for up to 65 preschoolers. 313.393.2790
Emergency Services
- The St. Vincent de Paul Clothing Referral Center and Food Depot provides clothing and food in emergency situations. Open Mon, Wed and Fri. from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. 313.393.2920
- Energy Assistance Program has limited funds available for utility assistance in collaboration with St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Parish Conferences. 313.393.3036
Medical Services
- Dental Clinic offers free dental services to adults lacking insurance. Cleanings cannot be done at this time. 313.393.3009
- St. John Health System Community Health Clinic provides free non-acute health care for the uninsured such as physicals and preventive care with a nurse, medical assistant and social worker referrals. 313.567.7462
Services to the Incarcerated
- Team for Justice gives direct services to families of incarcerated prisoners and advocates for the rights of those in prison. 313.393.2870
Other Services
- Christian Legal Aid of Southeast Michigan provides free legal counsel and referral. 313.393.2930
- Gratiot-McDougall United Community Development Corporation provides residential and business development services in the lower east side. 313.393.3014
